Lyons—Richard C. Wunder Sr., 86, Heaven has gained another farmer Richard Charles Wunder Sr. passed away peacefully at the Newark Manor Nursing Home on November 1st after a long battle with dementia.

The family will be holding a celebration of Richard’s life in the spring of 2025.

 Richard was born on April 23rd 1938, in Lyons NY the son of the late August and Irene Anstee Wunder. He loved his hometown and was a dedicated member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lyons NY. During his teenage years he worked alongside Dr. EM Coye who at the time owned the Lyons Veterinary Clinic in Lyons NY. Working with animal’s made him become an avid animal lover that inspired him in later years to raise his family on a farm. Richard served in the US Army reserves and received an Honorable Discharge in 1963. During his service he met and married Pauline Spencer formerly of North Rose NY. Together they raise 4 children as well as 2 of Richard’s youngest sister’s children after she passed away at a very young age. While running and maintaining the family farm with his wife, 3 sons and daughter. Richard worked side jobs to provide for the family. Up until his retirement he was employed by the Lyons Central School district as a custodian.

Richard is survived by his wife Pauline; sons Andy (Laurie) Wunder, Cris Wunder; daughter Wendi (Mark) Barnes; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother Arthur (Judy) Wunder, sister JoAnn Hasseltine; nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard is predeceased by his parent; youngest sister Carol Grinnell & oldest son Rich Wunder Jr.
