Dorothy May Poole Lyons---Dorothy May Poole, 85, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2023, at Geneva General Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps Street in Lyons. Burial will be at the South Lyons Cemetery where Dorothy will eternally rest beside her husband. Dorothy May entered this world on June 15, 1938, as the youngest child born to Augustus and Nellie VerCrouse. Dorothy was a 1955 graduate of Newark Central School. Around the same time, she met and fell in love with William “Junior” Poole. They were married on December 15, 1956, and spent the next 59 years together. Throughout those years, they saw their family grow from five daughters, to son-in-laws, to 12 grandchildren, to their grandchildren’s marriages, to 10 great-grandchildren. Large family gatherings were common with lots of love, laughter, and food. Dorothy never wore her heart on her sleeve, but you always knew how she felt and where you stood with her. She set the example and raised her daughters with a strong work ethic that consisted of a sensible, frugle lifestyle. Dorothy worked for the Wayne County Department of Social Services until retiring after 27 years of service. Retirement included reading, crosswords, canning, sleepovers by the grandchildren, casinoing, visiting with friends and family. Dorothy and Junior’s retirement together was something to see. From the dualling lawn mowers cutting the grass to tending to their large garden that they produced over 50 years. Even in the common everyday banter and daily tasks you could see their dedication to each other. Dorothy enjoyed retirement and her quiet time. Visits were special with the grandchildren, but the great-grandchildren just melted her heart. Their stories, giggles, and cuddles were cherished moments that she looked forward to. On September 28, 2023, Dorothy departed this world to reunite with her husband, Junior; daughter, Darlene Palermo; granddaughter, Jessica Sendlosky and many loved ones she has missed for so long. While Dorothy is no longer physically here, she will live on in the hearts and memories of her daughters, Donna (Ken) Daniels, Diane (Michael) Sendlosky, Denise (Bob) Darcangelis, and Debbie (Ron) Patnesky; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and her sister Charlene Frank. www.keysorfuneralhomes.com
