Lyons Mary Jane Simpelaar, 71, loving wife of Allen Simpelaar, died unexpectedly while visiting her son in Conyers, Ga. on May 17, 2014. She was born January 28, 1943 to the late Dorothy and William Joyce in Oneonta, NY. Mary Jane enjoyed a successful career in the banking business, beginning her vocation as a bank teller in Franklin, NY. She retired as Branch Manager of the HSBC Bank in Newark, NY. She was also Vice President of the Western NY Region for the HSBC Bank. She was very active in the community as a member of the Newark Rotary Club, the local Cancer Society, Wayne County Economic Development and other organizations. Upon her retirement from the bank, Mary Jane accompanied her husband on numerous safaris in Africa. They also traveled to Argentina, Australia, Holland, New Caledonia and New Zealand. Mary Jane was very proud of her Irish heritage and visited her family in Westport, County Mayo, several times during her lifetime. Mary Jane loved her summer camp on Lake Ontario where she and her husband enjoyed welcoming friends and family for summer gatherings. Simpelaar Fruit Farms in Lyons was their winter home. Mary Jane is survived by her husband Allen, 3 children, Joyce, Brian and Barbara, from her first marriage to Gary Clark of Webster, and their spouses. She is also survived by stepsons, Steven, Kenneth and Mark and their spouses. Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren, Bethany, Leah, Meredith, Jackie, Ben, Craig, John, Kelsi, Brittney, Adrienne, Ryan and Brenden; 2 sisters, Dorothy Hurlbert and Nora Clifton. She was predeceased by her sister, Kathleen Bassett of Tazewell, VA. Calling will be held Friday (May 23) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St. Lyons. Other services will be private. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Oneonta.
