Wolcott William C. "Billie" Powell, 95, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at DeMay Living Center. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday (May 27) 11 am at Glenside Cemetery, Wolcott. For those wishing memorials may be made to your charity of choice in his memory. Billie was born on January 9, 1919, in Geneva, a son to the late Clayton and Helen Mulvey Powell. Billie attended Riverside Military Academy in Georgia where he received his Army Commission. He further went on to the University of Georgia, where is played football. Billie was then activated into the US Army. Billie fought in the in the Pacific, task force Birch at Christmas Island, New Guinea and the Liberation of the Southern Philippines. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal and his combat infantry badge. Billie was also a combat infantry Commander. He retired from the United States Post Office as a rural mail carrier. Billie taught Little League in Wolcott for many years. His passions in life were Lena and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nathalina "Lena"; 2 sons, Barry of Fine and Terry (Patricia) of Wolcott; 6 grandchildren, Krista, Shane, Colleen, Jessica, Erica and Savannah; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 sister.
