Conquest Hazel M. Gillhuly, 93, of Slayton Rd., passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014. A graveside service will be held Thursday (June 12) 3 pm at Conquest Rural Cemetery. For those wishing, memorials may be made to the Conquest Fire Department in her memory. Hazel was born October 8, 1920 in Niles, NY, a daughter to the late Frank and Eva Whipple. She was a life member of the Conquest Fire Company, was a member of the Countryside United Methodist Church in Spring Lake and was noted for her coleslaw and potato peeling for the roast beef dinners. The Town of Conquest celebrates "Hazel Gillhuly Day" on June 30 every year since 2007. "I just like doing nice things for other people" Hazel said. "It makes me feel good".
