Cato/Fulton Stephen W. Schmitt, 64, currently residing in Fulton, passed away at home with his family at his side on Thursday, August 7, 2014. Family and friends may call Tuesday (Aug. 12) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Keysor Funeral Service, 11362 South St., Cato. Stephen was born December 1, 1949 in Auburn, a son to William G. and Winona Halstead Schmitt. He worked at Crucible Specialty Steel in Solvay as a millwright. Stephen was very active in sports at Cato-Meridian High School, having been a football and baseball coach and referee. He loved to travel, summer in Maine and winter in Florida. He is survived by his wife Becky of 44 years; 3 children, Timothy (Scott) of Fulton, Tina Schmitt of Baldwinsville and Cory (Megan Hampton) Schmitt of Fulton; 3 grandchildren, Tyler, Laurencia and Charlotte; parents, William and Winona Schmitt; 7 siblings, David (Marilyn) Schmitt, Debra Titus, Roxanne (Dennis) Rogers, Janet (David) Quinn, Bruce Schmitt, James (Jacqueline) Schmitt and Heidi (Joseph) Dennison, all of Cato; Many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Wendy (Randy) VanNorstrand and Beth (Glenn) Gambrell.
