Cato Gloria J. Dewey Smith, 80, died Friday, December 12, 2014, peacefully with family at her side. A memorial celebration for Gloria will be held at the Cato American Legion, TODAY, Sunday (Dec. 14) from 3 to 5 pm. Wear your favorite Yankees pride. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cato Fire Department or to Finger Lakes Hospice. Gloria was born March 24, 1934 in Meridian, a daughter to the late William and Naomi Ward Dewey. She worked for CCA of Fulton for 25 years. She was also a cook and retired from Arnold's Family Restaurant in Weedsport. She enjoyed spending time with her many children, cooking for her family and friends, camping, playing cards with her dear friends and mostly Gloria was an avid Yankees fan. She was a member of the Cato American Legion Auxiliary and the Meridian Baptist Church. Predeceased by husband Robert M. Smith, son Richard J. Smith, daughter Patricia Smith and grandfather, William Dewey, Sr.. Survived by 9 children, Judy (Al) Romero of VT, Robert Sheltra of Liverpool, Cindy (Clint) Loomis of VT, Jill (Craig) Cartwright of Cato, Jack (Linda) Sheltra of VT, Steven Smith of Cato, Jeffrey (Amy) Smith of Cato, Sandy (Fred) Arnold of Weedsport and Mark (Dee) Smith of ME; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, John Stoecker, Butch Dewey and Tom Dewey; several nieces and nephews.
