Red Creek Melvin Acome, Sr., 70, of South St., passed away on April 3, 2015, at home with his family by his side. Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 9, at Becker-Keysor Funeral Home, 6816 Church St., Red Creek. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Memorials in his name may be made to Wayne County Nursing Home Foundation, 1529 Nye Rd., Lyons, NY 14489. Mr. Acome was born in Fulton, NY, on April 16, 1944, the son of Laverne and Esther Bennett Acome. Mel retired from Xerox after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong resident of Red Creek. His life centered around his family and his home. Mel enjoyed gardening, camping, bird watching, renovating houses and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl; two children, Tina Reitz of Red Creek and Melvin, Jr. of Baldwinsville; two granddaughters, Amanda (Harry) Hildreth of Weedsport, and Emily Reitz or Red Creek; a brother, Laverne (Norma Jean) Acome of Conquest; two sisters, Carol VanDuesen of Greenville, SC, and Jean Porter of Cazenovia; many nieces and nephews; his faithful dog, Lucy, and two granddogs, Hank and Tank.
