Carol Palmer (March 4, 1929-November 4, 2015) Carol Palmer, 86, of Red Creek, NY, died peacefully on November 4, 2015 at DeMay Living Center, Newark, NY. She is predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Philip Lott Palmer; sister, Jane Williams; brother-in-law, Warren Williams; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Lori) Pederson; and son-in-law, Donald Hill. Carol is survived by her brother, Donald Pederson of Middleton, WI; four daughters, Barbara Hart (James) of Rush, NY; Pamela Hill of Oswego, NY; Robin Allinger (Joe Hammond) of Sterling, NY; Valerie Palmer of Red Creek, NY; as well as, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born Carol Pederson on March 4, 1929 in Geneva, NY, she was the third child of Dr. Carl Severin and Marion Penhallegon Pederson. Carol graduated from Geneva High School and then achieved a two-year degree from the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women in Ambler, PA. Carol continued her education at Iowa State University in 1950, with a focus on Veterinary Medicine. She met Philip here and they were married in her Geneva family home on March 22, 1951. They later settled in Red Creek, New York. Carol's love and knowledge of gardening and animals were evident in helping to establish and manage a successful animal farm and gardens, sustaining the growing Palmer family and teaching her children valuable life skills and a solid work ethic. She was an avid reader, and often shared her time and knowledge with her young children. As her daughters became more independent, she served as the Red Creek Librarian for a number of years in the 1970's-early 1980's. Carol's love of horticulture showed in her many flower gardens, which were enjoyed by family and passing travelers for many years. Carol is well-remembered, loved and missed by us all. She taught her four daughters to become self-sufficient, successful, creative, caring, respectful and empowered women; we carry on our mother's vast legacy each day. We wish to thank the Red Creek and Fair Haven Fire Departments for their kind and unfailing responses to our emergency needs; contributions may be made to these Departments in her name. Carol's memorial will be held privately by her family. Arrangements have been made with Becker-Keysor Funeral Home, Red Creek. www.keysorfuneralhomes.com
