Robert W. Wadsworth

d. February 1, 2017

Newark

Robert W. Wadsworth passed away on February 1, 2017 at the age of 96.

Bob touched a lot of people in his life. He was a music teacher in the Lyons, Middlesex and Newark school systems. He was a viola virtuoso, and could play almost every instrument, and composed, conducted and performed his entire life, including teaching high school students into his 90’s. He and his wife Ruth, who passed away 7 years before him, performed together for many years, including a circuit of nursing homes where they played monthly for many years. Bob was the choir director at the Lyons Presbyterian Church from the time he was in college at Ithaca in the 1940’s. (Ruth was the organist.) But he was also devoted to the church and was active in every way. He was an elder and a deacon, but also a constant presence and a vital part of the worship life of the church. He was the manager of the Tally-Ho Music Camp. He served in World War II. He was a woodworker, a horseman, a bagpiper and a gardener.

He will be missed by his daughter, Becky, of Sodus but soon of Scotland and her husband Nigel Hall, and by his son, John of Natick, MA, and his wife Maria, and his grandsons Noah, Colin and Tim and his wife Ruosi, and a grandson, Aidan.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday (March 11) 11am at the Lyons Presbyterian Church, 11 Queen St., Lyons.

Donations can be made to the Lyons Presbyterian Church in his name or to the organ fund.

Arrangements have been made by Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St., Lyons, NY.
