Jeffrey Lyle Smith, 55, of Pilgrimport Rd. surrendered to his illness after a 30 year battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. He fought cancer with a will and determination that astounded everyone. Jeff is continuing his journey beyond the realms of earth with the zest that he had in life.  He had an infectious smile and a quick wit with a ready joke.

Family and friends may call Sunday (Mar. 26) from 2 to 4 pm at Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St., Lyons.  Burial will be at South Lyons Cemetery on Monday (Mar. 27) at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cracker Box Palace, PO Box 174, Alton, NY 14413 or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, 665 Elm St. Buffalo, NY 14203 (roswellpark.org).

Jeff was born November 6, 1961 in Lyons, a son to Edward K. and Esther Chalupa Smith.  He was a driver for the WATS bus, a division of RTS.  He had a great work ethic and enjoyed driving and restoring old cars.  Jeff was an outdoorsman, gardener and loved animals.  He had the unique ability to build and repair anything and was a “master of all trades”.

Jeff valued his family and friends above all else.  He is survived  by 6 siblings, Larry (Babbett) of Balston Spa, James (Sandy) of MI, Mary of Lyons, Janet of Lyons, John of Lyons and David (Susan) of VA; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed by his very special friend, Alice and her daughter Rebecca.
