Betty Jane Reed

Betty Jane (Fancett) Reed, at age 95, passed away January 15, 2018, at the Wayne County Nursing Home where she had made her home for the past six years.

Betty Jane was born on Aug. 8, 1922, the oldest child of LeGrande and Lucille Fancett.  She was a 1939 graduate of Penn Yan Academy.  On Dec. 21, 1940, she married Kenneth Reed, the love of her life, and moved to their farm in Savannah, where she lived until Kenny entered the nursing home.  Betty Jane lived with her daughter until joining Kenny in the nursing home in 2011.  Betty Jane was an extremely active member of the community and her church.  She was a talented crafts person and a passionate quilt maker.  She was devoted to her husband and family and taught them all well.

In honoring Betty Jane's wishes there will be no calling hours.  A memorial service and burial for Betty Jane and Kenny will be held in the spring.

Donations in Betty Jane's memory may be made to the Wayne County Nursing Home, 1529 Nye Rd., Lyons, NY   14489 or the South Butler Methodist Church, South Butler, NY 13154.

Betty Jane is survived by her children: Martha Reed and Jonathan (Kay) Reed of Savannah, Sally (Raymond) Morris of Tenn., Sarah (Sandra) Reed of Iowa, Leah (Pat) Oles of Gansevoort, and Philip (Lori) Reed of Oswego; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; her sister, Barbara Wilsey; brother, Dale Fancett; and sisters-in-law Betty Sowles and Esther Hadden.

In addition to her parents, Betty Jane was predeceased by her husband Kenny in 2012, her son Kenneth James in 1961, and her brothers Gerald, Norman and Merle.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Wayne County Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Betty Jane over the past 6 1/2 years.
